Speaker Robin Carsberg
Growing and Showing Fuschsia's
Robin used to work in Information Technology. I.T to us, and that would explain the lovely
information sheet he produces. He has also collated a speaker's list, and is an Essex
Guild Judge. He used to specialize in Fuschia's and Pelargoniums, but due to the extensive care
they need in the summer months, it restricted his travelling, so now concentrates on cacti,
succulants and orchids. Robin has also a 1/3 of an acre garden, which keeps him busy.

Speaker Cliff Moore
Pound Wood & Little Havens Nature Reserves
Cliff was seconded in 1974 by Barclays Bank to work for the Wildlife Trust, and has been a
member every since. Cliff is also Chairman of Castle Point's Local Group, and Chairman of the
Pound Wood and Little havens Management Committee.
His other interests are Travel, History and Railways.

Speaker Clinton Lee
Times of Nelson
Clint was an electrical engineer and travelled the Middle East and all over Europe, before decided
to buy his own Electrical Company. Apart from his subject tonight, Clint also is an accomplished
Clinton Lee Wood Turner and Carver, and produces some lovely work. He also enjoys gardening, of course. Clint and his wife also work for a charity Southend F.A.B taking physically handicapped and Able
Bodied members on holiday, all over Europe and the U.K. Clint drives the 15 seater coach.

Speaker Essex Air Ambulance
Essex & Herts Air Ambulance
Essex Air Ambulance was established as a charity in 1997. The first air ambulance for Essex was
launched in 1998. Today the EC135 Eurocopter launched in May 2003 is in operation 7 days a wk
in daylight hours and attend on averaged 3-5 emergencies a day. Each flight costs in access of
£2000, but the charity receives no lottery funding. To date (August 2008) the aircraft has flown
more than 9,000 missions, and it is the generous people of Essex that they continue to fly into the
future.

Speaker Margaret Willis
Bedding Plants and their uses
Trained for 3 years at Writtle College from 1984-1987. for 6 years trained pupils with disabilities
at Truelove nursery in Ingatestone in Horticultural.
Margaret has also taught Garden Design at Havering college. Margaret has also got a shop, dealing
in Vintage Fabrics, Tapestrys, China and glass. Incorporated in the shop is a lovely Café.
Some of her items have been featured in top class magazines. So if you want to visit, it is in
Columbia Road near the Flower Market.

Speaker David Williams
Flow of History (2000 years of River Thames)
David is a qualified City of London Guide and Lecturer, and at the moment is studying for a
History Degree. Before David retired, he was a film and T.V producer and writer for documentaries.
He is also Press officer for C.P.R.E -Protection of Rural England, that is to stop turning Essex
into a concrete jungle. And lastly, Chairman of Manchester Drive Allotment Society. Busy Man.

Speaker Michael Davis
Bygone Rayleigh
Is a great friend of Ernie Lane, and when Ernie retired, asked Michael to carry on his work on
the History of Rayleigh. He is on the committee of Southend Pier Museum and has been
Treasurer and Membership Secretary. He also belongs to the British Titanic Society for the
last 20 years. A shareholder in Southend United, and was a financial advisor before he retired.

Speaker Jean Andow
Flower Arranging
Jean trained at Writtle and Greensward College for floristry and flower arranging. She started
teaching in 2000 and finished teacher training in 2005 with her Degree. At the moment, Jean
teaches at Southend Adult Community College Castlepoint & Rochford Adult Community College, and
the Globe Beckton which is in Newham. HOBBIES - Gardening, Beading and up to 6 years ago,
teaching and playing netball. Jean is also a Balloon Artist, making people happy at various celebrations.

Speaker Ken Crowe
The Prittlewell Prince
Ken started out as a teacher, but joined Southend Borough Council in 1981, and is now "The
Keeper of Human History (Curator) of Southend Museums. This covers Archology, Social History,
Local History and Coins. His hobbies are, Historial research, & Travelling. Ken particully likes
France and has just discovered Austria, which he has fallen in love with.

Speaker Sue Howarth-Reading
Eyes along the Coast National Coastwatch
Sue joined National Coastwatch in 1999, then did a masters degree in maritime history, trained
as an advisor for CAB and completed NOCN's 1,2 & 3 in Art. Sue had to upsize to house her
ever growing collection of paintings and books, also doubling her garden, hence her membership
to our society. She also belongs to the Royal Horticultural Society, The Art Fund, National Trust
and a founder member of the National Maritime Museum. Holidya this century included a voyage
a tramp steamer to the Shetlands Islands a a week on Trinity House Vessel Patricia.
Sue was also a Head Teacher at a comprehensive school. No wonder she loves learning!
